Hidden Rust Damage
Eating Away at a Classic
A patched rocker panel. Rust was cut out and replaced with new metal.
A rear panel dogleg cut out and the sill damage cut away.
The welding and grinding completed.
A dogleg patch panel fitted for installation.
The repair panel is a pretty sad "reproduction" and needs some help to connect properly. A real disappointment to be sure. I've since read that It would be easier to buy a half section fender panel and cut it as needed. Add $130.00 per panel, what an option...
Another look at the fit, or mis-fit? After welding up the fenders and sills I sprayed  Waxoyl inside the sills and behind the fenders. Note: Waxoyl is flammable so don't try welding near it. (post script note:the Waxoyl should have been applied after the paint job. The painter had problems with fish-eye. He thinks the Waxoyl went airborne in the booth and had to go over some areas to cover blemishes.)
This is not rust damage but a stress fracture on the top of the door. This is the infamous MGB crack of doom. This is inside the door next to the wind wing pillar. I spotted a small patch over the crack and welded up the outside of the crack.
