Nasty Work
But What a Difference!
The passenger side battery box was once cut to fit an older style 12 volt battery! Ugh! This proves that Neanderthals drove MGs too. Apparently this was not an unusual conversion but what an insult to the marque!

A Miata 12V battery fits nicely but the original dual 6 volt batteries will restore the originality.

New battery boxes from The Roadster Factory. They have a good selection of Heritage body components. When I found these were available I realized this mess could be restored properly and the fun began.
Lowdown rear view of new battery boxes welded in place and floorboards removed. The MGB driver is kept warm by muffler directly beneath seat. Ice cream and cold beer should be transported on the passenger side ONLY!

I had trouble with sagging leaf springs until I installed a set from an MGBGT. Also, the rear shocks are a Moss conversion to tube type. The streets here have deep dips for drainage which put the wear onto shocks and springs.

The battery boxes installed with plug welds. Between the boxes just behind the tunnel is a sheet metal box with a nut spotted into the center. I had to fabricate the part, just copied the original. The battery crossover conduit mounts under there.
The battery boxes are installed and the cut area repaired.
