Nasty Work
But What a Difference!
Rusty floor panels were once covered with fiberglass. The metal was thin and full of holes. I was pleased to find no serious rust problems on chassis. It looks like the rust was mostly caused by standing water which came through the firewall during car washes and rainstorms. It's no fun working down here but it is worth the effort
These new panels came from Moss. The flanged edges were removed and carefully cut to fit.
Guide lines were drawn from bottom side around chassis supports and transmission tunnel. 1/4" holes were drilled at 1 1/2" spacing for plug welds. New nuts were welded for seat installation. New bolts were welded for harness/hydraulics/gas line retaining clamp on passenger side. I don't know how many holes were drilled but my hands took a beating...
Using an air chisel, cutoff wheel and nibbler, the floor panels were carefully removed. The area was cleaned up and covered with zinc antirust paint.

I heard from a guy in Canada who removed his panels with only a grinder and a lot of determination. Whatever weapon you choose, it is nasty work.

The installed panel.
The zinc paint covering the new welds. Sealant will later be applied to edges and chassis supports underneath.
